MCTS regularly makes changes to routes to improve reliability while also prioritizing service where needs and demand are greatest. MCTS operates over 4,000 daily trips across Milwaukee County.

Service changes are made in March, June, September and December​ in accordance with the agreement between MCTS and ATU 998 Bus Driver’s Union.

Spring Changes (March 5, 2023)

Our service goals for the Spring were as follows:

 

  • To modify routes in response to constraints in the 2023 Budget.
  • To return formerly detoured routes to their regular routing after the end of road construction.
  • To modify schedules for new detoured routes due to the major road construction.
  • To adjust the frequency of service based on a review of ridership and to improve efficiency.

Route Changes

  • 15 – Holton-Kinnickinnic
    • Service on the southern end will be reconfigured to replace segments of Route 52 (Clement – Pennsylvania) which is also being modified (see below).
    • Buses on the southern end will no longer travel via Chicago Road, Drexel Avenue, 15th Avenue and Marquette Avenue.
    • Buses will instead travel via a one-way clockwise loop via Madison Avenue, 5th Avenue, Columbia Avenue and Chicago Road to Drexel Avenue and layover.

  • 52 – Clement-Pennsylvania
    • Service on the southern end will be shortened at College Avenue due to very low ridership. Buses will instead travel east on College Avenue past 15th Avenue to Lake Drive and layover at the Kelly Senior Center.
    • Service on the following segments will be eliminated:
      • 15th Avenue between College Avenue and Rawson Avenue
      • Rawson Avenue between 15th Avenue and Chicago Road
      • 5th Avenue between Columbia Ave and Puetz Road
      • Puetz Road between 5th Avenue and Chicago Road
      • Chicago Ave between Columbia Ave and Puetz Road
    • A reconfigured Route 15 will replace Route 52 service on the following segments:
      • Chicago Road between Columbia Avenue and Marquette Avenue
      • 5th Avenue between Madison Avenue and Columbia Avenue,
      • Madison Avenue between Chicago Road and 5th Avenue
      • 10th Avenue between Rawson Ave and Marquette Ave
    • In addition, the frequency of service will be modified to be 50 minutes along the entire route.

  • Route 60 – 60th Street
    • Service will be modified so every bus will travel the entire length of the route, i.e., from Brown Deer Road to Layton Avenue. Buses will no longer make short trips only to / from 60th & National Avenue.
    • In addition, the frequency of service will be modified to be 20 minutes along the entire route. These changes will better match the demand for service and will improve the route’s productivity.
